Ray Pye

It all started for me in the seventies on a balmy summers night, the Venue, The Green Shack Brompton ( just up the hill from Chatham Town Hall ). The Band was MEDUSA who included Mark Ellis on Bass, the great late Ken Arnold on lead guitar, Al Brooker on Drums, and me on throat.

Later that year I then joined a Band I had seen many times, they were FANG THE PUBLIC ANIMAL whose Singer, the late and very great Keith Dallison had left for health reasons. FANG were Doug Niven on Drums, Rob Niven on Piano, Kevin Weatherall on Bass, Terry Dixon on Lead guitar and me on Throat.

It was in 1980 my old mate Rockin' Dave Robbo, who said in his words "do you fancy starting up a Band" I said "yes" and DIRTIE BERTIE were born.

After rehearsing many times in St. Mary's Hall in Strood, we ended up with the line up of: Brian Day (Dayo) on Bass, Barry Archer on Lead guitar, Robbo on guitar, Harry Hancock on Drums, and me on throat. This Band ran for 25 years till I retired (from the Berties) and still exists today with some new members.

Formed partly from the BERTIES, Robbo and I recruited Chris Milner on Bass, Andy Neall on Drums, Barry Eatwell on Lead guitar, to form 7ft STINGERS, named after one of our favourite watering holes after many a good night out.

After a very short break, another Band cropped up, made up from old mates,
VERY UMBLE were formed. This Band were Harry Hancock on Drums, Brian Hughes on Bass, Damian on lead guitar, and me on Throat.

And now I am up to date, this new Band RUNNING BAREFOOT is again made up
with old mates, and named after a late friend of ours BAREFOOT JOHN. Members
are, me on Throat, Bobby Morgan Lead guitar, Jon Burt Bass, Harry Hancock
Drums, Robbo guitar. And not forgetting our loyal Roadie, Andy B.
GOOD LISTENING,
See ya.
